Pullets or Cockerels? I think I know but need confirmation!

If you’re having trouble deciding, and it really doesn’t matter to you, you could run a poll and we can help you decide.

Almost forgot- :welcome
Oh ... that's a great idea. So just post the pics on the main forum and label it a Cockerel poll? Also would it be advisable to keep 3 cockerels with 5 or 6 hens do you think? To be honest I don't even know what breeds I have. But definitely a mixed bunch of free range. I will have trouble giving them away because I have become so attached to each of them. 😢

It is best to choose a cockerel based on his behavior versus his appearance. You want a bird that is not human aggressive, that is gentle with the girls, that tidbits them and that keeps and look out for predators. That's what makes a good flock leader.
You won't know any of these things until he hits sexual maturity. That doesn't happen till around 13 to 16 weeks depending on the breed and the bird. At first he will be rather rough with the pullets because they are not ready for his attentions. But oftentimes you can tell the good ones at that age.
