I was given a Wayne cdu800 sump pump today. it has a pump rate of 3150 gph at 10'. does anyond have any experience with these pumps? I plan on using it for my duck pond to pump through a diy filter. I am sure i will have to install a bypass valve in my discharge line going to my filter. I also plan on putting
it on a timer to run a few hours a day. This is the pump.

I hope it does also I have 4 30 gallon drums I plan on using for my filter system.
Wow that thing draws a lot of current, do you really need 3100 gph? How big is the pond? And do you think you will require the 10 feet of head pressure in your filtration system?

The reason I ask is that my dedicated pond pump comes in at 550gph for under 30W of a draw vs that ones 450ish watts.

I don’t think I will need that much flow but I would rather have to much than not enough. I plan on putting in a bypass to reduce the amount of flow going through the filter as I need to. And the pump was free so I will use it. And it only draws 3.8 amps that is not a lot.

Sorry to be negative but that

I like free too, but wouldn't consider heating my home with a hairdryer:lau

I have read that more flow is better to keep a pond clean not sure how true but going to try it.
certainly should be good for removing bottom sediments and getting solids into the water column for sure, so the higher flow rates are better for that if that is the goal.
Would enjoy you tagging me in so I can see what you came up with in the final build I love filtration topics ever since I was a fish keeper(bygone hobby).

If I can I will post my updates and pictures here as I get it built.

I also dabbled in fish a while back had a 350 gallon salt water tank with 150 gallon sump. With a ton of lights and pumps and filters and a chiller.
