Hey everyone,

Not only am I new to the backyard chicken scene but this is also my first year at attempting a vegetable garden with my Fiancee. Were trying to be more self-sustainable so decided to grow our own veggies this year.

Our plot isn't very big and doesn't have to much, just the basic vegetable and herbs for the main recipes we enjoy (pasta sauce, spices for chicken, beans etc.)
We also decided to get pumpkins so we can make pumpkin soup , fry the seeds, make pies and have some for carving. Not to mention give some to the chicks.

We tied the pumpkin back when it started growing to force it to grow in a different direction then the rest of our vegetables. Its tucked away in the corner which we like because it doesn't interfere with any of our other veggies.
We have noticed the leaves from the main stem have been getting white speckles on them and a bunch of the leaves have already died and fallen off. I figured it would go away on its own however its just spreading further down the vine. I read online that its most likely mold due to lack of airflow or water stay on the leaves. I have tried a milk and water mixture and sprayed it on the tops and bottoms of the leaves and still havent gotten any results. I feel the mixture has slowed the spreading to new leaves however the leaves that are already affected are getting worse and dying.

Any thoughts as to how we can solve this problem? I've attached a picture to the thread of one of the leaves that is badly effected (close to dying and falling off).

Thanks any advice would be appreciated.

That's powdery mildew. You could do a google search for treatments. If my memory serves, changing the pH should delete or stop it. I'm thinking baking soda in a mild solution, but don't remember exactly.
