I am afraid. I've never done it.

Its really not as bad as most people think. The birds show some discomfort of course durring the actually cutting but really dont seem to mind it after the fact.

Chris, didnt you have a link to videos or information on how to dub one time ?

I have read many times about how "un-gamey" they are. I am not interested in game birds, but here is a great link about their history...

*Sorry, I can't find the link anymore but you can google Pumpkin Hulsey history and it will be about the first or second to come up.*

Yes, Greenfire Farms has them- I was actually just looking at them there.

PepsNick - thanks, I looked at a few sites and they have a long history in the US and even longer elsewhere - going back to the 1700's!

Chris - made it sound not too bad. I may ask around for someone to personally show me how to do it though. I think that way I will learn the correct way and know exactly what to expect in person. The bright side of dubbing is that the boys will not have any frozen combs or wattles which has definitely been a problem this year wth the -30+ temps we've had.

"Not Very Game" can be greatly different from "Works and Plays Well with Others". I predict a fracas if you raise several stags and don't seperate them. : )
