One day after our hen died, another problem arose, of course.
We found our duck Bandit today with blood dripping down his face and his eye half closed. His mate died a year ago so he has been our lone duck for a while. However sometimes he likes to fly into our goat’s pen and hang out with them. Our goats are a small breed but I think they might have accidentally stepped on him. they’re not easily startled and are generally welcoming to Bandit, However they can get rowdy and I assume the poor duck got between them. We were shining a flashlight in the eye to see if we got any reaction and it appears he can see but very very little. His pupil also looks twice as dilated as the normal eye, but still intact. It doesn’t appear burst which was a relief but I’m not sure what to do. We dabbed the area with wound spray (poultry safe) to get some of the dried blood cleaned up, and provided him a clean bucket of water which he happily washed his face in. It appears that the issue is his eyelid mostly and maybe a scratch to the eyeball itself but I can’t be sure. Tips? He’s being kept inside a heated room with food and water for the night. Let me know if there’s anything I can do.
