Puppies!!!

A year is WAY too young to breed an Anatolian. They are still babies themselves at that age. They aren't done growing, they aren't mentally mature. Hips cannot be evaluated before two. I won't go into why that's important bc I have a feeling that's never going to be done with these dogs, but the point is that if they cannot be evaluated till then it stands to show that they are not done growing till at least then. Breeding a year old anatolian is like a 13 yr old girl having a baby. It can physically be done, but it isn't in the best interest of anyone.

I'm not trying to be hard on the OP, but I hope she shares this info with her parents so perhaps they can be more informed and resposible so this doesn't happen if they breed again.

Like I said, my dad was not thinking. At ALL.

I have bred dogs in the past and am all too aware that things can go wrong even with experience and vet care. This situation is completely irresponsible, steps could have and should have been taken when it was determined that the dog was pregnant. Such a sad fate for that dog and those beautiful pups. I hope that the op has learned something from this and if the parents insist on breeding these dogs again maybe at least the op can add some insite and knowledge the next time around.

The mama dog is malnourished and so is the puppy. Try to get the mama dog fed up so her outlines are not angular looking, but more rounded, before she gets bred again. May sound harsh, but it is probably better the others didn't make it, for all concnerned. She sounds like a good candidate for spay, and I almost NEVER tell people to spay/neuter their dogs.

I think momma looks too thin also. She needs to be in better shape if bred again before not during or after the fact. Get her on a good quality food and vit. it is good she only has one pup to feed in the shape she is in but very sad that so many died.

Large breed dogs should not be bred till at least 2 years of age cause they are not done growing yet themselves till then.

So very sorry to hear about the pups! I know it isn't your fault, but for every one else, a year is way too young to have pups and would explain the dogs condition and inability to properly raise pups. Unfortunately with big dogs they do have a better chance of squishing their pups, its sad. Just a little recommendation for the mom of the pup, get her on some good puppy chow, is seems to keep the weight on a little better, and they eat it better when on that, also helps mom keep her calcium levels where they should be. Also I'd feed it free choice for a while, just be warned it may cause some loose stools. She is trying to be a momma, and still grow, she will need the extra lovins. We have american bulldogs, and having pups should never be done on a whim, we don't breed very often, not even a litter a year, but kiddie pools make great whelping boxs, but I'm not harping at you, things happen and I'm glad your pup is doing well.

I know she is to young but my dad (not trying to be maen but) is kinda dumb! And never thinks before he does something! It drives me nuts! Thank you all so much for the advise, she is looking a bit better, and not nearly so skinny.

Oh she's a beauty! And the pup isn't so bad either

. She does look a bit thin but after the puppy suprise I'm not suprised. I'm so happy she's gaining her weight back and can't wait to see pics when she does (hint hint)

. Do you have pictures of the daddy?

I will get some pics of the whole family when I get home, I was at a friends house. Daddy is beautiful!

im so sorry the other babies were lost but atleast this one is doing ok. i agree poor momma was much too young and didnt know what was going on or what to do. i wouldnt label her a bad momma just very inexperienced. some dogs who are bred too young will accedentally kill the first litter but after being bred a second or third time end up being excellent mothers. though i wouldnt suggest breeding her again. simply becuase theres so many puppies in need of homes and jsut becuase the dogs being bred are purebred doesnt mean they are not going to pass on genetic defects or things like that.
i am not here to lecture just to give you support good luck with the little baby and momma dog!
