YES!!! Thank you! Thank you. Dogs are dogs - we need to learn to appreciate the fact that they are not being bad when doing what Mother Nature intended them to do... scratch, sniff butts, drool, chase critters, etc... This doesn't mean we have to let them get away with behavior which is not acceptable, but in MHO, I do believe we are responsible for treating them humanely and training with the goal of education - not punishment.

I like the way people take a piece of what you say & misrepresent your words.(NOT)

I just read a post about a family pet attacking a little girl who was trying to help the puppy. The older dog thought she was hurting the puppy. Anyways, my point being, that dog was looked at as if it was human member of the family. Not what it truly is. An animal,that has to be trained and used properly,much like a tool. The only advice people give is to kill the dog. I'm never giving advice on this site again. Another post,People on here think it's OK to shoot the neighbors dog when it kills there chickens,but it's abuse for the neighbor to train the dog. You people cant find even ground to stand on.

I'm locking this thread because the OP has received enough information to make a good decision about the situation... There's really no reason for further arguing/debate.

* * *

I think I can hold up our new member, jessejames (Welcome to BYC, by the way!) as an outstanding model of what to do in these advice/Q&A types of threads.

Here are some pointers for anyone who needs a refresher:

1. Read the question. Offer advice from your point of view. Things you've actually tried yourself that have worked in your own experience are best.

2. Assume the OP is knowledgeable/adult enough to think through the pros and cons and make a decision for themselves. Arguing about the various different options is probably not going to convince him or her of anything other than the fact that some folks are quick to anger.

3. The OP can respond with, "Thanks! That's great; I'll try that," or "Thanks! I'm not sure that will work for me but I appreciate your effort to help me out." Either way, don't be offended by the results of the discussion. We're all different and are going to solve our problems in different ways. It's okay!

(Seriously, the Staff is way tired of all the grumpiness in this section of the forum lately... C'mon, where is the usual BYC

and

?)
