A dogs crate is supposed to be a safe place and should never be used as punishment. As for the egg thing, I think your chicken needs training. You should make sure that you have a designated place for egg laying. It's easier for you to retrieve the eggs, and makes a lot of sense. Use artificial eggs to start the training - place them in your nest box. To get the hens the idea, keep them in a small enclosure around the nest boxes until they get the idea about where to lay the eggs. After a while, the chickens will get the idea and prefer to lay in the boxes. Then you can start letting them roam about as long as they have acess to the nest boxes. To prevent the chickens from being confused about where to lay thier eggs after they are let loose, make sure there are no dark and protected places (junk, cars, puppy crate) which might attract them. Make sure your chicken nests are off the ground to make it hard for your puppy to get into it. Also, at 10 weeks, your puppy is not prepared to understand complicated things yet. You should begin training the puppy with simple commands first, then start on more complicated things. An adult dog is similar in it's mental abilities to a human toddler, so a 10 week old puppy has not even that level of mental ability. Take your time with the training, and remember not to expect understanding from the puppy that is beyond his level. For instance, your puppy has to learn the word no before you can expect it to have any effectiveness in preventing unwanted behavior. You should try to teach your puppy "leave it" - make sure to use positive re-enforcement when your puppy does well. I reccomend you get a good basic book on puppy training which offers a straightforward puppy training plan, or enroll in a puppy traing school. I have raised puppies both with and without puppy kindergarten, and let me tell you - it makes a big difference in how they turn out. My dogs are very obedient and easy to live with.
