Pure Black Australorp hen

Is it normal for the hens to make groaning noises at night and during the day while free ranging around in the yard and roosting at night.only the Australorp hens do it.

I have one hen who goes around talking like a grumpy granny chicken sometimes. Maybe somebody else can help you.

Some birds are more vocal than others.

"Groaning" at night......is it every time they breathe in and/or out?
Could be a respiratory ailment.

I have three Australorps. YES! They can been quite mournful! Usually, I find them loudly mourning in the morning when I haven't let them out of the coop just yet. The next time during the day is when they are getting close to laying an egg. I usually just tell them to go lay the egg! LOL They are beautiful birds and I love their eggs.

I think it might be just the breed. Yeah I reckon their cool aswell.
