Pure Evil Cat.

he has toys, but he is too lazy to play with them. he doesn't like catnip much either. I would never even think of using a foghorn and definitely not euthanizing him! maybe a squirtgun though. sometimes you don't even touch him and he'll attack you! he used to be the sweetest lil' guy and then shortly after he was neutered he turned on us. it may have been because he was raised with a 3 year old in the house but i don't know.

Normal. We call it attack mode and normal mode. Random things trigger attack mode and I have to warn my husband all the time that attack mode is starting. I might have missed it but is he fairly young? They'll usually grow out of using claws in the first year or 2 and then you just have the occasional tooth puncture or back paw scrape if you are being dumb enough to interact with bare hands during attack mode. I was ready to send my cat off to be a barn cat her first year because I looked like I lost a fight with a wood chipper. Now she never uses claws and I didn't really do anything in particular. We never disciplined her, we just avoided playing with her when she was being violent. All the cats we've had just grow out of it. Laser pointers are also very useful for expending kitten energy in a non dangerous way.

I, too, have an evil kitty. He is 16 years old. About 3 years ago he started 'biting the hand that feeds' - literally. And he bites hard! 8 bites - 8 trips to the doctor for the insuing major infections....I am a sucker for his snuggles, though. My mom wants him put down. It ain't happening. What can I say...I'm cat whipped.

I'm SO tempted to use the foghorn on 2 of my cats that are TEARING up my couch... i may do this.
Nothing else is working... i have tried water spray... can of pennies... everything.. they have 2 LARGE cat trees with scratching posts..PLUS several other posts around my house...

I'd rather try the foghorn thing than a scruff shake on a cat, (cats are not dogs and those things dont work on a cat..)... just my opinion.. you should never ever put your hands on a cat in an agressive manner..never.

This is exactly what the foghorn is for- people who are at their wits end with certain cat behaviors. Although the other poster is upset I mentioned this, many cat owners I've dealt with said the foghorn has worked well. After two or three applications all they have to do is show the cat the can, and immediately the cats stopped the behavior. I, too, was alarmed when I heard about the foghorn at a animal behavior seminar, and challenged the speaker who then reminded me of how many folks blow their car horn before starting the car to prevent the fanbelt from ripping the cat to shreds. I might not know everything about cats but I know this: A human will not win a physical confrontation with a cat.

You might blow an air horn at your co-workers if you had MY co-workers.

Are you making sure to watch his nonverbal cues? Tail thrashing, ears changing position, eyes dilating. I had a foster for a while who did the same thing, but only if you weren't paying attention to what HE was telling you with his body language. It meant that if you were not paying attention while petting him, you could get swatted or chomped on.
