"Pure" Marans or BRs

Marans They will lay all those colors. If you take a fresh laid dark marans egg you can wash the color off to a tan egg much like you hold in your hand . It is possible you have Discount marans . Meaning that they have been crossed with another bred and the hybrid bred back to a purebred enough times to get the egg color . But I'd say marans .
 
Not all Marans lay dark brown eggs because it depends on the quality of the selection so they could be considered Marans even if not "excellent" Marans. I do not want to sound rude but if the breeder sold you these hens as pure French Marans, then if I were you, I would be a bit pissed off... I mean this breed is worldwide famous for laying chocolate-coloured eggs, it's the reason why people want Maran hens in their hen house and yours do not actually lay chocolate-coloured eggs because I see 1 speckled egg, 1 chocolate-coloured egg and 2 light brown eggs in your pictures... so I hope you didn't pay too much

I did not at all. These hens were given to me after I lost 40 birds to a fox.
