Well I just posted about my predicament with my ducks, but one of my replies got me thinking.

DO you guys prefer having pure bred ducks, or do you like mutts just the same?

I have no doubt that my eggs are fertile seeing as two of my drakes are total ..... Horn dogs? That might be appropriate.

Anywho, ive seen where others post asking for eggs to incubate.

So , would I have a good way of getting rid of the eggs if I shipped them out to people who wanted to incubate some? Would this be a successful method of getting rid of the eggs?

I have never had mutt ducks before. So I couldn't say whether I would prefer one over the other. I have seen pekin/runner mixes but never have owned any. But I would be very interested to get some to try to hatch myself.

My fertility rate is great, im just worried that i would have eggs and no one would Want them

lots of people want hatching eggs. i love my mutts just as much as the pure 1's. i know lots of people sale them on here and also craigs list or post a sign at the feed store

If you decide to sell some hatching eggs let me know. another thing is maybe if you advertise on craigslist (I don't know ) or put up signs in your feed store if they allow it you might have some takers.

Well, are you hatching out mutts for your own flock or are you reselling? Are the potential customers in your area "breed knowledgeable" or do they just want a duck? Are these potentially meat ducks or egg layers?

I am going over these very things. I want eggs. I have a mutt female from strong egg laying breeds so no worries with her. My others are pure bred and great laying breeds. The issue is if I hatch any out next year since my drake is a Rouen...NOT a great egg laying breed.

Will I be seriously diluting the egg laying potential of any female offspring? Will they have any value if I want to sell ducklings? Am I better off cutting my drake lose and getting a Welsh Harlequin drake? If I do that, will my mutt duck who loves my drake be heart broken? Should I sell them as a mated pair (doing that worked well for my buff duck and my khaki drake)?

So yeah...things to think about.

I am really new to this - and havent even thought about it much except for today. So, If I sell them as food eggs - Would I sell them with in 24 hours of being laid? Or how old are theystill good if refrigerated?

If I sell them as fertile eggs, im pretty sure I owuld get them out the day laid, right?

Crazy Cat Lady -

I have a buff who is laying an egg a day, as well as one other female laying ( black swed, cayuga, magpie - not sure which) . I have two drakes who are real ladies men, so I know for a fact that they are fertilized. The other two females should start laying any day now. But I dont know about their fertility rate, seeing as they have just started. My buff has a high FR though.

I wouldnt want to offer any eggs for hatching from the three younger females , seeing as I am new to all this, and Not sure if they would be good or not for hatching. But I would be glad to offer my buff eggs. All would be crosses though.

Is there a thread on here that tells how to pack the eggs or how many days till they are no good for shipping and such? If not, would you mind telling me a little about how to do this?

Eggs are good for quite some time once refrigerated....like MONTHS!!! You wouldn't have to rush it and sell within 1 day.

My flock is big enough - all eggs and ducks/ducklings are for sale. The lad that is talking half my ducklings actually gaveme my first pair of ducks. She isnt picky about breeds so she doesnt care that they are mutts. She just likes ducks and wants her kids to grow up around them. These ducks are not for meat. They are g=for eggs and companionship. Of course, I cant really garuntee that when I sell a duck they wont be resold for meat
