Pure welsummer leg coloring???

I had not planned on breeding that hen. I will have to look at the earlobes but mine did hatch out of a dark egg so I believe it was just a welsummer mix.

I would not use the rooster or hens that passes on this trait. It is a no no.

From what has been described by the OP only the males would pass on this particular trait as it is sex linked. If the females do not have Id it shows, as in dark legs. Whereas the males of the hatch can & possibly carrying the recessive gene which does not inhibit the pigment.

This is without even thinking about white skin. It seems odd that only the females which have inherited the gene which allows the dermal pigment would have also inherited the dominant white skin gene, they do not have linkage. White skin, being dominant, is unlikely to be hidden.​

That's unfortunate. There are some breeders on here who take their Wellies pretty seriously & are also members of the Welsumer Club; I expect they would point you in the right direction.​

sigh.. Its a little frustrating needing to replace all the roosters and getting rid of 2 of the hens

That means out of the 12 that hatched, I can only keep 5 hens?
Or do you guys think I need to just start over fresh?

Members of the Welsummer Club are serious breeders and a few "backyard" breeders that have hatchery Welsummers. You would need to do your homework, and ASK alot of questions about their Welsummers and where their stock came from. If they dont answer, move on to the next person.

There are plenty of BYCers here that have serious Welsummers and contact them if you want eggs, started chicks or adults. Remember ASK and read up as much as you can about Welsummers. We will certainly try to do our best getting some Welsummers or eggs.

Soooo....I bought a Welsummer from Rural King and she has the same colored legs. Is she a Welsummer or does the leg color mean she's an Easter Egger? Will she lay brown or olive eggs? (see photo showing her leg color - looks EXACTLY like the ones the original person posted)
