Purina Layena sucks

I'm in the desert and they don't have grass I have tried Purina and dumor and nutrena and Wal-Mart brand oh and a really expensive organic and the best for me is the cheap country companion

My eggs have orange yolk but a huge difference I think is the supplements I give which are

Grapes, kale, broccoli raisins carrots corn and any other yummy food like that

Lentils are the cheapest protein source I could find , I put 1/2 a cup dry in a mason jar , fill it with warm water , sit for a day then drain it , let it dry then soak them again and drain , 2-3 days and you’ll have little sprouts with leaves .

These are the brown lentils with the skin on ... found in any dry bean section

My birds all eat Flock Raiser, which is fresh here, and works great for everyone in my mixed flock.
The birds that range further, and eat more stuff out in my pastures, have darker yolks than the birds who stick close to the coop, and don't get as much variety foraging. In winter, with snow cover, and nothing outside worth eating, yolk color depends on how much extra stuff I take to them.
Some feed companies add stuff, like marigolds, to their feed to enhance yolk color.

View attachment 1468366 i read a thread here claiming it was a game changer in terms of yolk color. Well I tried it for 6 months. My neighbor feeds his chickens the cheapest feed they sell and I was spending $3 extra on my feed. Yesterday we cracked some eggs to compare and his yolk was much darker than mine. Really disappointed!!

How can I get my egg yolks looking orange?
If you really want dark yellow yolks then add marigold petals to your chickens’ feed.

My girls free range all day. Eating bugs, grass, clover, and anything else they catch. Including frogs, snakes and lizards. I also feed them non gmo feed from a local farm. Some of my eggs yolks are so dark there almost reddish orange while others are yellow. Not sure if it’s the breeds or whatever mood there in
