i am 13 weeks into back yard chickens, and would like to know how long to feed the medicated feed that my feed store talked me into. i have read that its not good for humans to consume in eggs, and takes a while for it to dissipate out of the chickens system. any thoughts would be of great help. thank you!

I'd do it as soon as you need new food. Do they sell a non-medicated grower? That's what I use from day 1.
13 weeks is about as long as is recommended.
I've only purposely bought medicated one time for a coccidia incident. Another time by accident.
Actually I feed a high protein game bird grower till about 6 to 8 weeks and then an 18% chicken grower.

i bought a 50 lb bag, and have about 4wk supply left. i am very willing to get rid of what i have and get what i need ,as i have had a hard time getting it all figured out myself.

As the birds hit 12 weeks of age, it is amazing how much feed intake increases. Feed is so expensive and has very little shelf life. I'd feed it out and then buy something else appropriate to their age at the time. BTW, the amprollium is merely a thiamine blocker which starves the cocci. It is safe, so says Purina, to eat the eggs of hens that are fed it, although who would do so?

They won't likely lay until week 19 at the earliest anyhow. Got a feeling that bag will be long gone by then?

thank you so much for your advice.
