Purina

I used Kalmbach 1044 for 4 years till they went to the new mix. They use to have animal protein in there mix until last year when they went to there, "all natural" mixture and now have all plant protein. I needless to say dropped them and had a 1/2 ton of feed shipped back.

Around here Purina Layena runs about 20.00 a 50 pound bag at the only store that want to carry it TSC,

That's mighty steep for Layena, especially in the MidWest. Even here in Florida with the extra shipping costs it only cost about $15.00 a bag.

That is what I thought also.

Layena cost about 11.59 a bag at our local TSC stores in Bloomington and Springfield. None in Decatur except special orders.

I'll stick with Purina, the feed ratio is much better than Farm and Fleet and Rural King and feed mills.

I mix Layena with Flock Raiser for everyone ranging from chicks to laying hens and roos.

I've always used Purina Layena crumbles for the big girls and Layena Start and Grow for the babies. They prefer this feed over anything else. Purina's Flock Raiser is also a favorite.
Ranchway was on sale at Bomgaars last week for 9.99/50 lbs so DH bought 2 bags and they're pellets. This is what the girls did when we dumped it in the feeder

Yes, availability is relevant. Price as well.

If all one has locally is Purina/DuMor, then one coupons, shops and compares and does the best one does.
When one has the choice of Armada, Kent and/or local feed mills, then one has more studying to do. We're all price conscience, extremely so, but we should also be content conscience. Usually, for me, weighing those two factors, Armada usually wins hands down. I also like Southern States, but I can only get it on my travels through areas where it is available.

Whenever one changes feed, they will sometimes balk. But if the feed is quality, I just wait them out. That's all they are going to get, so, within a day or two, they come right around. They aren't going to starve themselves to death.

They aren't so different than when you feed kids something they've never tasted before.

ONLY $15.50?? Cough! Cough!

You gotta take into account tho that there's only like 3 people that keep chickens in my area, and there's only one other brand of feed.
the other one is 14.50.
It all depends on the region you're in.
