Hello,

I have a hen that is about 2yrs old.
Today I noticed she had a purple spot at the end of her comb.
I believe that when the comb and wattles are fully purple, that the chicken is pretty dead. So, does this mean she is going to die? Her wattles are a normal reddish pink. She is also eating, drinking and walking around normal. In the pecking order, I'd say she is in the middle, so she is not getting picked on a lot. A have a picture below, she is molting so, don't mind her half bald head ;) I don't know if you can cure this problem, but please, help!

I think the information you are quoting would be a sick chicken with the entire combs being purple would be ominous, a sign of low oxygen in their blood.

IMO this looks more like bruising. If she is eating, poops are normal and activity is normal, then likely I am right.

Maybe someone with more experience will offer opines.

It can be common for a chicken with a large comb to show some blue color at times especially at the tips or at the back of the comb as your picture shows, if they are excited or bit stressed such as in cold weather or other times. The comb should look normal some of the time, or I would be worried about a heart or circulation problem. I have a rooster whose comb looks like this in the winter.
