Purple eggs---- I got some, take a look

I know it looks emu in the pic, but its a cassowarie egg. I got it from a guy here in IN, I havent seen him on here in a long while. I havent emailed with him in a very time either. He did have the birds, dont know if he still does or not. I'll have to do some looking for his email and see if I can find him again. Even if I can find him, I wont give out his info unless he says its ok. He had alot of very exotic birds, some of what you are looking for on your web site.

thats fine, I would love to get in contact with him if he has some Cassowaries. You could give him my contact info if you want. I would really appreciate it if you would.

Well here on BYC we have a chicken/Guinea cross... I'd love to buy a female.... just to see if I could get a cross or hatch the eggs.

What is the purpose in keeping these Chilean Tinamous? Not that one needs a reason but do people raise them for eggs? meat? art? They are cute little things. I'd be curious as to how they can be purchased.

same reason people keep peafowl, guineafowl, pheasants, etc...for hobby and ornamental purposes. They arent very pretty birds, but they lay some of the most beautiful eggs of any birds. Each species lays a different color egg. Certain websites have them listed for sale on occasion, and certain membership magazines like APWS and Gamebird Gazette.

Do they lay enough eggs to warrent keeping a few? Have you eaten their eggs? Are they like chickens in that they will lay without a male? Lots of questions. I'm always interested in the unusual/uncommon.

From what I have been told they need a spacious pen with plenty of plants and foliage, also shelter from winter being a tropical bird. Im not quite sure of the amount of eggs they lay, but I know you would have to have a pair of them. They are strictly a hobby species, but if one could breed them, they shouldnt have any trouble selling them, alot of exotic bird breeders have interests in them, and there arent alot of people breeding them in the US. This page has a little info about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinamou#Reproduction

I got them from a guy in GA. When I find his info, I'll let you know. He did have some birds for sale on ebay or eggbid, cant remember which now. Its been a month or so I saw them on there. You'll have to take a look for yourself.
