Purple eggs---- I got some, take a look

Those are really beautiful eggs! I love that emu egg! Are emu raised for a particular purpose? I wouldn't imagine they are heavy layers. I'm guessing they are raised for ornamental purposes.

Emu's became huge back in the 90's solely for meat. They have red meat likened to beef, even taste like beef, but its 100% fat free, and very low in cholestorol...much healthier than beef. Anyway, they were "destined" to take over the cattle industry, as they reproduce much faster and in larger numbers, and they are easier to feed(cheaper). They were selling as high as $40,000 a pair at their peak, Ostriches included(which has healthier meat as well, but not as lean as emu). However, people just cant see past eating what they are used to, and mass production was going no where, the farmers ended up with hundreds of thousands of emus and ostriches all sitting on there farm and not being sold. So the market crashed over night, it was quite a sad story honestly. It was in the news how the farmers were pushing out big holes with dozers and just burrying thousands of birds to get rid of them. Today, they are starting to get fairly rare, because people have stopped breeding them for so long, and killed the remaining birds off. So the prices have slowly started to climb back up. Particularly on Ostriches and Rhea's. Emu's have the prettiest eggs, along with cassowaries. You can buy them on ebay(ostrich, emu, rhea eggs). Cassowary eggs are extremely rare.
