Purple Eggs?

I don't know if this is in the right spot. Please move it if it's not.

I heard that there have been chickens that laid purple eggs, but that was never actually verified. I was wondering, is it possible for a chicken to lay a purple egg? And how would that color come about? A blue egg layer with a pink egg layer?

Thanks!
I would have put it in “chicken behaviors and egg laying”

I feel like a purple egg would be more like a dark egg layer, who laid a light colored version of a dark brown, maybe it turned out purplish.

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible but it’s unlikely

That sounds beautiful! I would love to see a picture.

My project Orpington egg color varies. She mainly lays a consistent plum color, recently she laid a couple pure brown eggs, & a couple days she laid light brown with speckles. Today she laid plum with brown speckles.

Wow that’s pretty! I’d love to have a purple egger just for the variety.

Adding lots of bloom isn’t harmful to the hen though, right? Or taxing in some way? I wouldn’t think so, but asking just in case.

What breed laid the purple egg?
It was a mix hen I do not remember the exact heritage as I took this picture in March 2010 when collecting some interesting colours for a Museum of Natural Science.

They were displaying a collection of bird eggs varying from Ostrich to quail and wren and every size and colour in between and a friend working as curator asked me to contribute.
