What do you do with the eggs? Are you vegan for health reasons? Obviously if you raise the chickens and care for them you aren't avoiding eating the eggs because of animal cruelty reasons. Just curious. I cook at a vegan restaurant so I am always curious though I'm not vegan myself.

I give the eggs away and donate them because i have no use for them (and occasionally feed it back to them!) ive been vegan since birth and aside from health reasons i get easily grossed out, and seeing a egg come out of a chicken doesnt exactly seem appetizing to me personally!

i usually give the eggs away to my neighbors, or keep the fertile ones to sell and hatch.

Mine started as basically distraction/therapy with the added benefit of eggs. I was somewhat depressed after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so my parents bought my a half-dozen ISA chicks from TSC to help keep my mind off of my condition. It worked, and even though I'm now accustomed to diabetes and have accepted it as a part of my life, we've added bantam breeds and guinea fowl to the flock, and I still very much enjoy taking care of them. The eggs are a bonus, too, and the feathers are fun to collect and use for crafts -- another little hobby.

I get it. Personally, lettuce grosses me out. I am not prejudiced against other vegetables. Just lettuce.
I eat eggs but I also like to give them away so I have more chickens than I need. They're entertaining too.

At first it was for the eggs, but after some chicken math they’re just pets.
