Purring chicken, happy sound?

I was softly cleaning the breast of my RIR chick, and heard that funny purring sound... I thought i was hurting her so I put her down, she quickly
jumped back up on my lap. I guess she loved the attention she was receiving?

I adopted 5 silkie chicks about 1.5 weeks ago. I have been trying to handle them daily so they get used to me. Today I picked up one of the ch. Within a couple minutes of me petting and talk, she snuggled down into my hand and went to sleep. The next thing I knew I was hearing this purr sound. I had never heard it before. She has done it several times since. It is so cute, I love it.

Okay, let me rephrase. (My happy ones do it) they are all Barred Rocks
I understood what you meant. I also have a barred rock, Dominique, wyandotte, bearded d'anver, road island red, light brahma, buff orpington. A few of them I raised as chicks and a few were adults when I got them. This is the first I have heard any chick or chicken do this.

Do you treat your chooks to chopped steak 🥩? Mine get it twice a week (Each hand fed, so no jealousy) and I spend hours on end with my feathered friends. Lots of lap time for each one.
