I was hanging out with my house chicken Margarita and every once in a while she'd make this deep purring noise. Kinda like she was saying burrrrrrr. Does anyone know what this means?

One trill sound is a danger warning, and another, similar trill is a happy sound. Without hearing your hen's purr or trill, I couldn't say which she meant.

Was she roosting and makes a little shivering motion when she makes this sound? What time of breed is she?

Mine make that type of sound on the roost at night and I can see them shake a little like they are purring with their whole body, It's a very cool sound like they are contendented. My DH has seen this also, and I have heard others on like mention this happening in their coops at night, like the whole flock doing it!

We have a house chicken too. Wynonna the one legged wonder chicken. Durring the day she stays in a large dog kennel in the window next to a cockatiel(?) and a conyer(?). They mimic her noises and it sounds like she tries to mimic them. What's your chicken's story?
