purring chickens?

My oldest daughter was petting our two araucanas yesterday, and she claims that whenever she stroked it, it 'purred'. Is this regular for a chicken?

Yes, they purr and coo and growl and make lots of different noises to signify their moods and to communicate.

You should see my big roosters when they are cooing to baby chicks or 'talking' to their girls and showing them where and what to eat.

Chicken noises are comforting and soothing to me - even the crowing.
