Pushing butts out?

Isn't it 8 hours or more? The sun wakes up in winter at 7 here. And goes to bed at 4. I left my lights on from 4-8 and had good luck laying. There's always going to be a lull in production from time to time, I think. Or at least I always had one. But I "rested" my birds for a month or two each off season before kicking the lights on.

But sunlight sunlight? I think everything needs sunlight and vitamin D. Not sure how much to be healthy, for chickens. Production cage birds never see the light of day. And their store bought eggs can be cracked just by looking at them. And those birds become fryers after what? 1 year? 18 months?

hmm.

I changed my topic, sorry I put it in the wrong category.
I'm just not sure about the sunlight, I've read that they need almost 14 hours a day of light, natural or not.
