Hi there.

This behavior where she backs up while pushing her neck and head down, often while circling her food ...why does she do this? Is this normal? I don't recall her doing this until the last week or two.

Interesting.

Have you changed anything at all about her food?

Does she usually eat in that location/ on that floor?
No change in food and no, she usually eats outdoors in their chicken run. She did recently finish a molt which I thought maybe contributed to the odd behavior but it's still happening.

I don’t have any answer for you, but my Buckeye does it sometimes.

She started it around 8 months old and still does it now at 2 1/2 years old. I have no clue why. It was suggested that it was due to seeing in low light (such as in the video which was taken around sunset during a rain storm). But She also does it sometimes in bright sunlight, so I don’t really know what’s going on. Aside from being unusual, it doesn’t seem to bother her and she doesn’t have any other issues.

Hopefully you’ll find out something more useful from someone here.
