First time hatching, so excited and nervous! My 24 red ranger eggs should arrive today.
My homemade incubator fits a 24- egg carton perfectly, but the eggs would be sitting vertically, not horizontally. Is this a problem? A lot of pictures show eggs laying on their side. Sadly my incubator wouldn't fit them this way.
Oh, and I know 116 is too hot, this was me yesterday trying up tweak the temp and humidity

Cool 'bator! Can you tilt or turn the eggs? They can be upright part of the time but to get strong healthy chicks the eggs must be turned most or part of the time on their sides. See the many incubation threads here on BYC. If you don't turn the eggs properly you will have malformed chicks.

Here is what I did in my homemade cabinet incubator. I leaned the cartons first one way then the other. I kept track each time I turned them in case I forgot how many times I had turned them by writing it on a calendar (the old grey mare ain't what she used to be). It might be easier on you to turn them if you got two twelve egg cartons instead of the one 24.

There was one extra egg that wouldn't fit the cartons in my incubator, you can see it on the far left. For air circulation I cut holes in the bottoms of the cartons. I had an excellent hatch rate doing this! Be careful as you tilt them, the eggs can easily fall out.

Good luck with your eggs! Let us know how they are doing.
