My duck is sick. I took her to the vet he gave her an antibiotic-shot in her chest and a bottle for me to give her orally until it’s gone. It’s almost gone and she seems to feel much better but just can not walk or even Stand at all. Idont know if this is something she can work thru or not. She’s a fighter but she just doesn’t seem to be get her balance any better. It’s breaking my heart. I feed her wild bird food and fresh water. I give her poultry nutri-drench for her vitamins but I’m loosing hope. Please tell me what is the right thing to do for her…. Cuz I just don’t know what that is…. :(

How old is she ?
I can’t get duck feed where I live but I feed chicken feed non medicated.
From 0-12 weeks I add nutritional yeast 1tbs to 1 cup feed
After 12 weeks I add it to feed a few times a week now that it’s winter im sprinkling it on the feed daily not as much as when they are little
Do you provide grit to help digest any feed that isn’t regular feed
Im not sure wild bird feed would have the nutrients she needs to be strong and healthy
You may want to get duvets vitamin B complex and give her 1 ml over treats daily for a few weeks as well as switching feed to duck or chicken and adding nutritional yeast

I agree with @New duck mommy 2021 and her suggestions.

Your girl is not getting all the nutrients she needs from wild bird feed. When I can get commercial duck feed, that's what I give my runner ducks. When it's not available (supply chain issues!), they eat all-flock feed like the chickens and geese. Ducks need more niacin than chickens, and you can boost her niacin intake with something as cheap as frozen peas.

Best wishes for you and your duck. Let us know how things go!

She needs proper food. She may also be low on Niacin hence the unbalance and inability to walk properly. I would buy some nutritional yeast and mix it in with her new food. Or see if you can buy some Poultry Cell from your local feed store. I'd give her 2ccs daily for a week or so and see how she does. Looking at the pictures, she seems pretty alert and otherwise happy. If she's a "pet" I'd keep her alive. Personally, my policy is unless the animal is in extreme, irreversible pain and suffering, and death is near/inevitable, I do not put them down. It just seems wrong to kill them when they still have the will to live. Mind you, this can result in caring for a severely handicapped animal, and not everyone has the time to do so. I'm just blessed to be able to care for the ones I have.

Before you make any decisions, I would definitely try to change her diet to proper duck feed and to give her supplemental Niacin in either the yeast or the liquid

Just want to add that once niacin issue is bad enough they can’t walk abd loose balance they need the durvet b complex along with the proper feed , treats with niacin like peas and nutritional yeast added ti feed
Your duck can recover but it takes time and care. This can take weeks to correct
It says injectable but it’s used orally on ducks
1ml over treats or on it’s own
Don’t add to water
I poked a hole in the top of my bottle so my syringe can poke in then turn bottle upside down and draw into syringe

I would switch her to a good quality duck feed like Mazuri waterfowl or Purina Duck, or even better, duckling starter feed since it's higher calorie and she needs to gain strength. Make sure she is kept warm at all times. If she shoes no improvement in a a day I would take her back to the vet. One of my ducks has been dealing with an awful case or bacterial pneumonia for the past 2 months. After many vet visits, tests and changing antibiotics she is finally 95% well. I figured as long as she's willing to goth and has the will to live, I will do everything I can on my end. I'm so glad I didn't give up on her. Sounds like your girl is a fighter too, so give her every chance you can to make it!

How long has she been this way?
She was way worse when I got her a month ago.
yesterday, New Year’s Eve, I took her to be put down and I could not get out of the car. I was not ok. And when I finally did get out of my car, they had closed. not a fun day….
but She definitely feels way better than she did but still not good. I think it requires too much time that I don’t have to take care of her In my very very small apartment. Regardless, I’m getting the new food and vitamin b complex today and will give her a few more days and see.
