Put The Chicken Down

Awwwwww

I'd love my OH to bond to a chick. I think his disappointed, cos his two 'girls' don't really seem bothered about human contact whereas my two seek us out.

I first wanted to call him Robin Hood. They wouldn't let me. But they let me use the second part of my second choice for his middle name. It was Arthur. Unfortunately they wouldn't allow me to use the King part.

I 'apparently' picked my sister's second name Alice, cos I wanted her to be called Alice in Wonderland. That said, I was only 4!

What breed is she? She looks beautiful.

I think this chick is our favorite out of all of the ones we have. She is very calm and loving. Well ....... She is a Lemon Millefleur Dutch Booted Bantam (Sablepoot). I know they might be hard to get in the US as I tried to look them up on US websites. This is what she will look like as an adult http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Lemon-M...t=UK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry&hash=item2312ae848a It is off the UK ebay site. Out of six eggs she is the only one that hatched. Our next favorites are the Pekins (thought of as a version of the Bantam Cochin in the US). They are lovely with huge feathered feet. We have Creole Pekins. Then the Polish. Our main problem with them is that they keep trying to get out of the brooder. If there is a way to get out, they will find it. Our least favorite are our Pure Chocolate Bantam Orps. We love them but they are our least friendly chicks. One of the reasons may be that we think that at least two of them are Roos and leaning towards Roo on the third.

I like the name Alice. One of my husband's aunts is an Alice. Our youngest daughter's middle name is Pip. It was the nickname the older kids gave her when she was still in my tummy. She is named after an Apple Pip (seed).

Oh how sweet!

I wish my boyfriend was like that with the chickens. He'll pet them a little, feed them bread, and built their coop but he says he hates them and I better not bring anymore home. I think he might be mad if I win the auction on 18 hatching eggs..... hehe

My husband originally got the eggs we have hatched to cheer me up but he has found that he enjoys them also. It is quite mood lifting to watch the chicks running around in the garden. Although we have found that after they have been out it also has been like a game of twister to get back into the house without stepping in poo. The kids adore the chicks also. Last weekend my eldest daughter was sitting on the grass watching the chicks play when one of the Polish chicks decided to climb up the leg of her jeans. The problem was that it had decided to climb up the inside of the leg. It was great! Hubby was trying to keep the other chicks away. I was trying to get the chick out and DD was screaming and laughing at the same time. It will become a fun childhood memory for my daughter to tell her kids one day.

On a practical note, We have quite a few anthills in the backyard and hubby likes that the chicks love to dig up and eat the ants.

I hope that your chicks will win over your boyfriend one day.
