Putting chicks on shavings

At how many days old can you switch chicks to putting them on straight shavings? And how often do you clean your brooders. I have 15 chicks right now and cleaned it yesterday, and it needs to be cleaned again today. I'd really like to put them on all shavings. They were born on Feb 27/28 is it still to soon to put them on straight shavings?

I have always started mine on shavings and have never had a problem.

I always put mine right on the chips also, never had a problem either.

I put mine right on shavings last year. Paper towels are just an added expence. Clean your brooder daily so it don't get real stinky. You can use a litter scoop to clean out the poop. Enjoy them while their little.
