Putting Together a Chicken First Aid Box

Spray Neosporin. If you can get it, highly recommended. Spray is better since you can really get close to wounds, esp. on a fidgety bird, and the cream can be hard to put on -- and it attracts dirt like nobody's business.

I would add a quart of Oxine (or a gallon, if you wish, but with three chickens, a quart would probably do you).

Not only can you use it to clean the coop - it can be sprayed directly on the birds - it is great stuff.

First State Vet Supply has the quart bottle of it - most places I've seen only have gallons.

You'll also want a "weed sprayer" (gallon sized, here we can get them at the hardware store for about 12 bucks) then mix the Oxine (6 oz. per gallon of water) with water and use the sprayer to do the whole coop. I usually pour a little of the mixed batch into a bottle sprayer to mist birds with.

I wonder if you could ask your vet to sell you a small syringe with a couple cc's of Ace Promazine or something you could use to put your chicken down if needed...
