PVC pipe feeder not working

I've also had problems with the crumbles getting compacted and plugging up at the angle. You can shorten the horizontal part so they can reach up to peck at the blockage or switch to pellets. Pellets still won't feed all the way to the end of the long part though.
I switched to using 45 degree angles instead of 90s they seem to feed better. The ones I have with 90s I just tilted them so the horizontal part is now at a 45 degree angle.
All of mine have been built with scrap pipes and spare parts so they were free.

They are not that much to make. I use Sewer grade PVC and it is much cheaper the SCH 40 and works the same. I made two about 4.5 feet tale with the bends and caps for about 15.00. That is only 7.50 per pen and it will hold about a weeks worth of feed. The one I bought froma feed store I have to fill every two days.

Well, I had no idea that there were differences in the type of PVC (40 vs 45, I have no idea what that means)

Mine was expensive 'cuz I had to buy everything at Home Depot and I obviously didn't know what I was buying.

oh well, live and learn

Thanks everyone for the ideas on how to make it better. We will try shortening the end inside the coop and drilling a hole closer to the bend so the girls can get their heads up there and peck.

For the rain, we have put a bucket upside down on the outside tube and that seems to help.

Someone asked how easy to clean- If you don't use glue, it's very easy to take apart and clean.

thanks again all!
