Does anyone know of any pictures of a roost made out of PVC? I built a large roost out of plywood, 1x2s and chicken wire which hold

about 50 birds. I was wondering if a PVC set up might be simpler to build easier to clean, be more streamlined, take up less space etc.

Any ideas?

Wood is great, but once it covered with chicken waste it just never is quite the same as the day it was built. I thought if I really got

motivated I could drag the PVC roost out of the house and wash it down? If the bars were too slippery I wonder if I could rough it up with

sand paper or something?

I had the same idea but after I done some asking around and some research, I found that chickens prefer more of a square roost. I used treated 2x4's and they love them. As far as the poop, I guess that's just par for the course!!

Nothing is ever quite as nice as the day before the chickens move in....though I'm sure they would not agree with that. If you are concerned about cleaning the roost, you can make it removable. Coat it with several coats of exterior paint. If you "steam clean" the roost, by throwing a hot, wet rag on it, leave it a couple of minutes, you really can get it pretty clean. They do seem much more comfortable on a "flattish" kind of roost.

As a rule is pvc ok to use when making your coop? We are building our 2nd coop out of recycled materials from an old swingset and have a pvc slide that we were thinking of using for the bottem of the coop nesting box. Ideas? We are using wood from the old sandpit to build the roof and walls of the nesting box.

As far as roosts go are round not a good idea at all? Again with recycling I have a old set of wooden munkey bars that would be ideal. If needed to be more square we could reshape them...

I have a round wooden roost my turkey roosts on and he also roosts on a square one. I suggest not using PVC or metal cause its kinda slippy...wood has a better texture. 2nd most important thing about roosts...poop board hahah

HAHA I am probably making more work for myself than I really need too. My girls free range and have a great coop. Us humans often make more work for ourselves. Am taking pix of our Mow n Grow to see what you all think. Post later tonight.

You could use the square PVC fence posts I guess if you just really want PVC. Yes, they could be 'roughed' up a bit for texture. Obviously they are more expensive than PVC pipe though.

I wouldn't use pipe for a roost.

I have wood 2 X 2s and that is perfect for AZ where it doesn't get cold and the chickens need to stay cool

I actually have one 2 x 4 on it's side and the chickens don't use it. They prefer the 2 X 2s. here in AZ.
