PVC roost?

Look around at your usual building supply stores where you are, and see if you can find a quart 2-part epoxy paint kit. Pick whatever color you like. Sometimes you can find it at Marine supply stores, but be careful not to get "anti-fouling" bottom paint, as that has ingredients that could be fatal to chickens.

When you build your new roost, prime the 2x4s real well with a coat of Kilz primer to seal it, and let it dry thoroughly. Mix up the epoxy paint and it's catalyst and apply it to your roosts; if you mix half of it up, you can paint the roosts, let the paint cure, and then hit it again with another coat mixed up from the second half of the paint.

Once the epoxy cures, your roosts will be virtually invulnerable to whatever your chickens leave. The surface will be scratch resistant, and will be easy to scrape with whatever tool you prefer. When you do your 6 month cleanout, you can hose the roosts nice and clean. If you ever need to disinfect your coop, the epoxy will stand up to any kind of soap as well as chlorine bleach.

I just use tree branches that I cut down from around our property. When they get poopy, I throw 'em out and put up new ones.
