Here's another pic of Priscilla to get a better idea of her size. The chick she is with is a 5 week old Speckled Sussex. Her feet and legs are smaller!
You'll have to find her a boy friend that has a shorter back....crisper spangling......and willow legs. The crest is a bit large...but crossed with most of the Pyncheon males out there...she should produce some very nice heads...... Thanks for the photo! Keep us posted.....
Hi Judy.....Just saw your PM.....so nice to hear from you....very nice photos.... Nice hen....color is a bit blurred and spangling could be better....nice type.....wings could be a little lower....I like her. Your males....: A and B have the best combs..... A and C have the best heads..... I wouldn't use D..... E...has your best color and type...(don't like his head) A.... looks like your best size..... I hope this helps? Take the head from one...and then had the body and size from another...and then the color from a third one...and there you have it! This has been the problem(s) I have had with the breed for the last 16 years....
..... and again....Please keep us posted on your progress! I'm still debating if I want to continue with my white Pyncheons.....not enough time to do everything..... Later, Rusty
Thanks SO much Rusty! I know, isn't it crazy how they're all different?!
Ok, I'll take B & D out of the mix. C is the tallest, but I was thinking his daughters might have good heads. I'm thinking I could put A with the hen for a period of time, then C, and then E. Does that sound good? I don't have room to keep all of the cockerels, so maybe someone here would benefit from having B & D, understanding they don't have the correct leg color.
In so far as line breeding, these cockerels are the hen's sons.
I'm going to put the cock (he's just coming out of a molt) that I have with his 3 daughters; here they are:
Judy.....that sounds like a good plan...... The cock bird matured nicely. Not too bad of type on the pullets....A...has too much smut in her cushion and tail area...... B....not bad....color needs help..... C....Is your best female.......nice profile....good body type....I like her shape from the back of her neck to her tail....a nice sweep. Good feather width and shape as well.... You're on the right track. By the way.....Watch your C... cockerel...he'll be way too white as a cock bird in another year....I love his head....and body type.... his pattern isn't too bad either....(for now).....watch his color next year! Rusty
Too bad you don't live closer. I would take B. A not so great cock is better than none! lol. I actually like C the best, but that's just my personal feeling, I am by no means an expert! Though I think A would probably make the best babies with my one girl.
