Pysanky anyone?

Hi was gone all day with family. In regards to the blown egg- actually any blown egg you first need to plug the hole. You can either do this by rolling some wax into a a small log shape and fill the hole or there is a new product out which is wonderful. It's a reuse able plug that fits in the hole. You have to plug it so no dye gets in the egg.

To submerge an egg I take a plastic cup or container that will fit in my dye container. I put the egg in and use the cups weight to submerge. If need be I add water to the cup so the egg goes down.

Have wanted to learn this since I was 20, mumble years ago....

Since my handful of white egg layers are popping out some beauties, I decided it was about time to learn. Have found a couple tutorials online, waiting til I can fit dye, kistka and wax in the budget. Soaking up as much as I can til then!

There are some descent kits for under 15 dollars.
Suggestion-
Don't get the old fashion kistka- wire funnel and stick.
For a dollar more get at least the "delrin"- much easier to
control the wax flow to make straight lines.

Almost electric kistkas are even better- IMO.

Until then practice "writing on eggs to divide them with a pencil.(Look on youtube regarding dividing the egg.)

Once you can draw on the egg with a pencil and make the lines meet etc- you will feel even more ready to
begin with wax.

That's a great idea! Thanks so much! Wonder if my egg customers would mind doodles or if I should stick to my own eating eggs. LOL

Okay, have marked up the eggs I'll use for our breakfast tomorrow, and am quite happy with my results.

Couple questions: dye can go in wide mouth canning jars? How long can it be stored? How long (or should I say how many eggs can I dye with each batch) will it remain potent? Should it be refrigerated?

If I am unable to purchase all three at once, what size is best to start with - fine, medium or heavy? I'm thinking either fine or med, right?

Varnish or lacquer? Spray or roll in hand? Why?

Hi- dye can be stored in canning jars although I use plastic so there is no risk of the egg hitting against the glass- that's me.
They dyes are good kind of forever although will build up particles over time. They are usually strongest for ab 3 dozen eggs color wise. You can refresh using a little more vinegar.
No need to store in the frig.
For shine- you need a non water based product. Min wax varnish has been used for years. Only bad thing is sometimes over time it can turn slightly yellow. I just heard ab another product but I haven't used it yet- just bought it so will keep you updated.
With min wax I put plastic gloves on and put some in my palm. I rub the product all over the egg. The egg goes on a drying rack- 3 nails in a wood board to balance the egg on and put on ab 2 coats.
Get a medium kistka. You can make nice lines but still be able to cover larger portions too!

Welcome to te world of pysanky! I would write more but very annoyin...two letters on center of keyboard not workin. so I sound like an illiterate.

I use plastic oriental takeout soup containers for my dyes. work perfectly.
you are already ettin wonderful advice from Meles and I will stop typin now...too annoyin to read .
