QUACKER SHACK IS DONE!!!!!!!!!!!! DUCKPONICS IN ACTION. -More pics-

how does the filter work? I would love to be able to filter the water for my little duck pond.
The fenced in side of the pond is the filter. I'm using biological filtration so the plants will filer out the waste. I don't think it will be completely successful until I get some more plans but for now it'll hold them for a bit. I also have those 2 planters I'm using for additional filtering/aeration of the pond. I've got some quilt batting in the largest planter which filters out debris and in the smaller planter I have an algae scrubber.

Looks great!! and you even have a volley ball net across the pond in case they want to play water volley ball. lol

The pond looks great and your ducks seem so thrilled to be swimming!

what are you using to airate? sorry I'm not good at all this but my ducks' water gets so dirty and it's been so hot out so I get worried about it being stagnant, I'd like to have something to airate the water.

I swear the duck in the back is giving me the stink eye

You can see the corn treats I have floating around. Just threw in some fresh ones. Also see the cinder blocks I had to put up to keep the ducks from diving under the fence and eating the plants.

The inside of quacker shack. Unsure what I'm going to do about a door and haven't stapled up the wire vent stuff yet but no rush.

Water celery hanging out.

You can see how much damage a few hours alone with the plants one duck did. Practically no duckweed left. /sigh

Drinking out of the hose

They loved the fresh cold water.

Made sure the dogs can't get the ducks through the fence with some simple chicken wire nailed up.

Additional security on the fence. Prevents digging and jumping.

Drinking the dirty water.....

So this is the inside of my planter filter. Has quilt batting and some activated charcoal.

duck found the corn!

My son helping with the chores. He was sad all the duck food was gone.

You can see it in the background of this pic. It's 2 planters (was 3 but one got blown by the wind and cracked so is not in the bottom of my pond holding duckweed). I pump the water into the bottom of the big one. It goes up and water falls out into the smaller one and then out into the pond. It's the waterfall effect that aerates the pond. I have filtering medium in the bigger planter that helps with algae and such.

OK, you're 3 months in. How's the duckponics working? I'd love to find a less smelly pond option for our 3 ducks... right now, if I don't dump the baby pool every other day it reeks.

We do have a natural creek behind our house, but I can't come up with a way to let them roam freely but still be relatively safe from predators.

Thanks!

Thank you for the explanation! I can see it all now, and the pictures are great! I was hoping to find something that would be inexpensive and this looks great. Thanks again!
