quail and cracked corn

Bobwhites are famous for loving corn.

hunters will drop corn on ground to attract a flock

My birds are fed a mix of turkey starter/cracked corn 50/50

its cheaper than straight starter feed and only the biggest kernels are left uneaten

same is fed to my chickens, peasants, and coturnix

it can be fed as a straight feed but egg laying will stop due to a low protein content.. and its likely missing trace minerals etc.

I wonder if dry kitten chow would be cheaper than gamebird feed?
Here our gamebird starter went up to $33.00 for a 50# bag...

Even cracked corn seems like it would be too big for most of the smaller quail. But scratch grains would probably be small enough for coturnix and bobwhites, like Charlie said. I'll have to try that. I usually only treat with small finch seeds, and scatter it in their pen for them to scratch around.
