Quail are FINALLY hatching on day 21!

There were just the 12 but it's all good- in fact it's GREAT! I am glad that I was able to get some! I have slowly been accumulating these BBS orps and if these do well, as I'm sure they will, I will finally have some to work with.

Don't I know it! I have a black orp hen who was VERY slow to lay. My whites were too. The Buff Orps laid faster than any other chicken I have, but the cuckoo marans were a close second. I have 1 dark blue and 3 black orp pullets from Julie's stock that are now around 14 weeks old- night quite half way there!

These chickens grow so large it really is about 28 weeks before you begin to see their full potential as hens. They are full bodied and really gorgeous to look at so you can see they put most of their enegery into developing their body before egg laying becomes a priority.

That makes a lot of sense. The black orp hen I have is by far the heaviest, fluffiest hen out there. She spent a lot of time getting to that point too. My wife is always doing a double-take to make sure she's not looking at Diesel, my black orp rooster. I need to get a pic up of her, she's just beautiful.
