The Birb King
Bird is the word
I mean, their general care is pretty similar to chickens, but the way they act is a bit different. It was definitely interesting watching them and seeing things I have never seen with my chickens

Yea that is one thing I noticed chickens are definitely smarter. At least baby chickens don't just try to run off my hand when I hold themI'm learning this but the oppositeI had quail first and now raising chickens. One positive thing with quail is the quick timelines. By 6.5 weeks I have eggs with quail. Wild that I'll be waiting almost 6 months with my chickens. And quail were easy to sex but I found chicks much harder.
They are ridiculous to catch if they get out of the brooder thoughat least my chicken chicks were smart enough to associate being near me with treats.
One time one of mine escaped and we spent 15 minutes chasing him through the woodsI too, use a butterfly net! They are slippery little buggers even when you are experienced at handling them! That net has saved a lot of time!![]()
This is great advice. For habitat, you can get all kinds of crazy things you think they’ll like and spend a ton of money, but honestly, cinderblocks, plastic bins or cardboard boxes with holes on front and side so they can break line of sight, and they’re crazy for anything to hide under, like I have a wooden wall of an old hutch leaned on 2 cinderblocks, it’s like they have rooms leading onto a covered deck. It used to be hard finding all the eggs, but seriously, lift up the leaning wooden wall panel, and 99% of eggs are there lol. My quail particularly like cinder block or boxes placed around open spaces to break up the space, if you have an aviary, quail won’t want to use the middle, they won’t want to cross the wide open gap, so just put cinderblocks every few feet and they’ll be out and about running between them.
Most of all I am thankful I am not the only one with this problem.
Just ordered my butterfly net off the zon. Thanks for the tip!
Looks too comfortableButterfly nets are a lifesaver! I had the privilege of testing mine 6 days after it arrived when one of mine popcorn'd out of the brooder during a cleaning

Not really, which is why you shouldn't treat them like chickens. It's rather like treating a cat like a dog.I mean, their general care is pretty similar to chickens, but the way they act is a bit different. I meant like feeding and watering them and stuff. I know they need different setups since quail like to hideNot really, which is why you shouldn't treat them like chickens. It's rather like treating a cat like a dog.
Different setups, different diet, different behaviours.I meant like feeding and watering them and stuff. I know they need different setups since quail like to hide
They are not completely different though. They do some things the sameDifferent setups, different diet, different behaviours.
