hello, just wondering how to make my quail cage more exciting for my quails. can you guys post a lot of pictures of what you have?

I took firewood halves and drilled holes on the sides big enough to put sagebrush limbs. They constantly hide under them. Cool natural look also.

I've been trying to research what type of pen/aviary would be good for my jumbo quail. This is the closest thread that I have found. I was going to simple make another "room" and extend my chicken yard with another section of about four feet by ten feet and about six feet tall to house my quail. It can't be fancy as I have limited funds and I will be building it alone. I thought this would solve my problem and give my quail a nice area to live, spread out and be happy, if I can keep the ratsnakes and copperheads out.) But, I heard that keeping quail too close to chickens can result in diseased quail. Anyone have any advice on that?

Sand baths, a pile of dirt and leaves to play in, a straw heap, and things to perch on and hide under are good things to include. Plastic toys, shiny objects, and anything with food inside (puzzle feeders, etc) are less natural-looking but also fun. Live bugs and worms are a great treat+plaything.

Gamebirds are less domesticated than chickens so more prone to catching diseases carried by chickens. Coryza is the biggest danger when the two species are in close contact.

To make it really exciting put one of my dogs in there with them...he hehe.
I know what you are saying, but most just need room to move around and stretch their wings about once a week. Quail are more a ground bird and only take flight at last resort, when spooked as to evade (quickly) and maybe to roost.
I usually add a small brush pile and a few hiding spots. But if you get into collecting eggs, then keep in mind that you will want to be access the areas as well.
All quail like a sand box, and you can add some powdered seven dust to the sand to help keep the mites down (if any). No need for the plastic shovle and bucket though!

My lab at the beginning usually made them freeze but they are used to her. Cover I got. Here’s a few pics.
