Hello all,

My saga with quail Barbus continues.

I currently have two 6 month old Barbu d'Anvers that I believe are quail, or at least a dark quail. I'm assuming they have the Co and Mi genes. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

What I'm curious about is color tone of the gold/brown parts these Barbus. One is more of a yellowish gold, the other is paler and browner. I'm thinking they have different base genes? Maybe one is eb, and the other e+? Or are they the same, and it's just natural variation?

Thanks for the replies! I did have a feeling they might be brassy back, but couldn’t find much in my research. How can you tell if they are e+ or eb?

Will see if I can cross them to my silver columbian boy the next season.

I think they are e+ because they have the salmon breast in spite of no Columbian gene. Brassy back can only be found on e+. Partridge based birds would have a darker breast as well.
