So I’ve had these quail for a few days now, and am getting some hardware cloth very soon so that’s not an issue. But i was wondering how people with aviarys get their quail to get inside. I’ve just been picking them up and putting them inside when it gets dark. Also I don’t know if they understand the food and water. I dipped their beaks in it, but I’m not sure if they understand. Thanks for any tips

It probably won't happen. Japanese quail are not like chickens in that regard—they bed down at ground level at night, either out in the open or under plant cover. They don't typically know how to seek shelter from the elements either.
