Hi all,
My partner and I are first-time quail parents. We have three quails at 2 weeks old. We've named them Merry, Pippin and Bu.
5 days ago, Merry flew out of the pen and we weren't aware until midday when we went to check on all three. We found Merry 10 mins in and it was stuck behind the pen. One wing was spread and the neck was at a very awkward position. We think that it was trying to break free but got stuck even more.
Once we've put Merry back we realised the neck was not straight and thought it could just be a sprain. We went online to research and read somewhere to wait about 4 days and everything should be fine from then.
It's the fifth day and Merry's neck is not getting better. Furthermore, it looks like there could be a lump on the right, or maybe it's not growing proportionately or maybe has wry neck. I am unsure. Merry has been sleeping with its neck to the left and we can see that sometimes it loses its balance. Also possibly due to one side being heavier from the lump?
Our beautiful Merry is still eating, drinking, pooping as per normal. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of character and mood.
Am wondering if I should take it to the vet, wait it out or medicate.
Please advise.
Thank you all
