Quail chick

So I had a quail chick and a hen. The chick hatched in the incubator, and then went under the hen as its mom. He was drinking fine but three days after hatching seemed really tired, and then sadly died Still under the hen. know what could’ve happened. Felt horrible for the mom as she kept going back to the nest looking for the baby.

Anybody know what happened? Hatched too early?

Did you see anything off with it such as curled toes, scissor beak, or splay leg?

I fed him game bird food ground enough so he could eat it but not powdery. I don’t remember what day he hatched on all I remember is when he hatched three days later was so sleepy and died. he did not have any scissor beak or splay leg. And was eating and drinking just fine previously.

Were you feeding game bird starter? Do you have the nutrition information?

To be honest, it just sounds like failure to thrive. It happens sometimes and there's not much you can do.
