Quail Class

Pics
Does anybody have pictures of chicks sleeping in “deadbird pose”? My Halloween chicks are being awfully coy about it, but I think it would be useful for new quail owners to see they do sleep that way sometimes.

Remembering the first time you saw a brooder full of limp bodies, didn’t you just about have a heart attack? I freaked— then of course they all stood up, annoyed that I interrupted their nap.
Got a pic of one today:

He’s dead Jim:

wait, no he’s not:

Have you tried a stuffed toy and a mirror?
I gave my lone sick chick some craft Pom Poms so he felt like he was with buddies, and a mirror. The mirror was a huge hit.
Ok. So I just got home and I'm not sure what he imprinted on but it is definitely not me because he wants nothing to do with me, haha. I picked up one of the eggs and tapped it and there was movement so I am hoping for another friend for him but it will be a whole night and a whole day before he's out. I will try mirror and pom poms. He may have imprinted on the eggs (is this possible???) so I'll be throwing one of those in there too (if he even can imprint on the eggs :gig ). He seems to calm by my voice when he calls but tonight is going to be a rough night if he keeps this up, lol.

I feel so bad letting him cry while I'm away but is this safe/ok for him? Maybe I'll try playing something on loop or repurposing an old customizable toy robot to move occasionally so he thinks he's not alone. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi friends ( omg that baby is so cute )
So.. 3 of my girls have escaped, not sure how lol but now I am worried about overbreeding. boy to girl ratio is now 2:5
Should I separate the boys? working on getting 4 or 5 more girls.

Bummer! The general answer is yes, you should have 1 boy to 4 or 5 girls. But occasionally you can do a higher b/g ratio, dependent on the personalities of the specific birds. If your boys are amorous i think it would be good to just separate them til your new girls get there.

Yup... the boys will mate with the girls literally ALL DAY

I’ve had to keep ones isolated because of weak hatching etc, and they cry a lot. In my experience this doesn’t harm them physically, but it’s probably hard on them emotionally. I have not known Quail to imprint, but as it realizes you are it’s only company, it will probably start to like you, but will then call for you.

The minute you get it friends, it will not like you the same anymore.

Aww I wanted one to want to be around me for once but oh well. All of these eggs' parents are very chill and nice so I hope they are too. All 3 of the remaining eggs are alive (candles and saw movement) but idk when they will hatch. I've had some babies follow me but once they get 3-5 days old they hate me more than the rest lol. He cries a bit but when hes under the heating pad he is quiet. I'm hoping for more babies soon!

So if the 2 eggs pipped yesterday night and the babies still arent out, should I assist tonight or leave them? Every time I assist I regret it but I'm getting desperate for a friend for this little guy. 16052144414413838659441378320201.jpg
