Quail Class

Why does vinegar help? I will have to try this!
Apparently it makes them forget who is who, and by the time it wears off they’ve forgotten how things used to be. Someone had posted a thread about combining coveys with vinegar, and I tried it and it was great. Every once in a while you get someone bent on being a jerk, and I just cull the aggressive ones because we don’t need that, it’s usually boys, so they’d be heading to the fridge eventually anyway.

I literally mix and match my groups every few weeks and I’ve had only 1 bird who aggressed strongly after being combined this way.

I’m adding posts of info for new quail folks as things happen or ideas come to mind. Today was a “quail enrichment” session. Quail aren’t prodigies, so enrichment doesn’t take much time or equipment.

One method— take a rake and pile their grass and hay over to one side of the pen. Continue until you have an issue with raking up quail (bad). They will dig in the newly exposed dirt, climb the hay pile, and toss everything around. Gathering to attack the pile:

Another activity is to get a shovel and dig until the hole fills with quail. I do this in as many places as I can before they start following the shovel in anticipation. (There is a huge lack of fear factor going on here).

In summer I set up a mister and let them make mud wallows after raking/shoveling.

What is that light colored one with the dark face!? Do you know where it came from? This is the first time I've seen a quail like that and I want to add a few to my flock now.

Hi all! I am working on starting my business soon and wanted to give you guys a link to my facebook page, to my business. https://www.facebook.com/Gilbert-Quail-100291035244324/?view_public_for=100291035244324 For now, we are only selling nonfertile eggs, BUT you can pre-order fertile eggs for spring 2021. Live birds can be pre-ordered starting in January 2021.
Be aware that FB might pull any ads you create or even ban the page. Selling animals or animal products is against their rules.

Yes, I am aware. I will probably do any pre-ordering through email, the same with nonfertile eggs. It's a pain though that it's against the rules!
