Quail Coop Build Share

Hey, Peeps!

I thought it would be fun to share the progress of my Coturnix quail coop build. We are located in Zone 5b, so it gets quite cold here. During this build, in focusing on repurposing scrap materials that we have here on the property, and the end result will have 8 separate hutch areas, including a weather proof box and open air run.

As far as the aesthetics go, we are going for function over fine craftsmanship.

Any who, I will keep you posted with project pics! This is the base (step 1) that we completed today.

Here is where we left off today... the pool liner was great to line the floors with (will be trimmed and topped with sand), and I’m going to plant a “living roof” on top, mainly of mints and things I can cut and give to the quail. More to come. Excited to see it finished and painted!

Back hutch doors are on. Basic plywood with slide in and out hinge hooks. May add some additional ventilation holes later...

Made some progress today!! Despite the horrible summer heat, I’m getting so excited to finish this and get some quail babes into their new home!

Painted and the living roof is installed with birdie edibles!

the only things left to do are secure the white vertical boards that the wire will be attached to, a bottom lip to frame the front floors, and front opening wire doors.

Added some adorable little door numbers that I took off of an old target cubby shelf.
