So I was planning on building a stationary, wire bottom, roofed coop off the ground as per the general consensus is that wire bottom = healthier birds.

Does anyone use a tractor style coop for their quail? If so, is worming the only thing you need to worry about if you don't own any other birds?

You will have to worry about predators, them getting out(yes they can dig), and it being wet. Wire is your best bet...

Hand't thought about the digging ... lol. Predators I will have to deal with anyways but I suppose they could be more of a threat on the ground.

A real simple trick I have used throughout the years for anything I wanted to keep predators away from is to chain my dog up near them. Coons and possums and such won't come near my cages because they have to pass through the dog's chainspot. I've had plenty of problems with the dog not there, but I've never had anything killed while he was out there. You just got to make sure that the dog can't get off the chain and kill them himself.
