We are raising about 1,000 quail. We have adequate space, plus flight pen. They are dying about 10 a day. All the dead ones legs have a red raw spot just above their foot, on the inside of the leg. This is our 3rd year of having quail, never had this happen before. They are being fed game bird feed, scratch, milo.

Can someone help please, vets are not too interested.

Thanks,
DonnaBelle

Sorry Just Trying To Cover All Possibilities....

I Know Of Nothing Specific In Illnesses That Cause Red Patches On Legs Right Off Hand, But I Do Know 12 Wk Old Bobs Are Teenagers--- The Ugly Years. They Are Wicked Mean To Each Other And The Attack Sites Of Choice For Bobs Are The Nostrils And The Feet/ Legs. There Could Be A Possibility Of Aggression Being The Cause Of Your Losses? Dont Know For Sure But Thats The 1st Thing That Pops Up With The Limited Info So Far,

I Dont Recommend Feeding Young Or Juvenile Bobs Anything But Gb Starter... The Scratch May Cause Choking In Them, Scratch And Milo Will Also Detract From Their Overall Protien Intake=== Which Will Make Canibalism Much Worse In Bobs. Whats The Protien % On Your Gb Feed?

Stick some lettuce and greens in there, A LOT of it...it is their "ugly years" as JJ mentioned..I have raised 40 (before raccoons decided to annoy me)..and they can get mean, sick, you name it...greens will prevent some picking and add some nutrition and vitamins...
